Aluminum

Characteristics and info

  • Clean aluminum that is in good condition without steel, paint, or rust.
  • Aluminum breakage is the dirtiest form of aluminum. The percentage of steel to aluminum on the breakage is about 20% aluminum to 80% steel.  These normally come in the form of transmissions and other car parts.
  • Old sheet aluminum is considered dirty aluminum meaning that it is bare sheet aluminum that has steel or plastic with it.
  • Aluminum extrusion is any material that has been used as framing. For example, some door framing and window sills are aluminum as well.
  • Aluminum cast is aluminum that has been melted down and formed into a finished product commonly used to make car parts.
  • Aluminum shavings
Examples
  • Aluminum cans - soda pop cans
  • Extruded aluminum - most common form of extruded aluminum is window frames.
  • Car and truck wheels
  • Kitchen utensils
  • Engine blocks with oil removed
  • Transmissions
  • Painted aluminum - signs must have a legal document to sell.
  • Aluminum window frames
  • Radiators
  • Aluminum wire - insulated or bare

Brass

About
  • Clean yellow is the most common form of brass.
  • Red brass is found normally where you have a combination of copper and yellow brass.
  • Semi-red
  • Hard brass
  • Refinery brass is a type of yellow brass that is dirty meaning it contains some parts of steel.
Examples
  • Musical instruments
  • Doorknobs and locks
  • Valves
  • Ornaments
  • Trophies

Copper

General

  • Copper bare bright is the cleanest copper. We normally get if from stripping wire.
  • Copper #1 is clean copper tubing and clean stripped wire.
  • Copper #2 is copper tubing that is not clean. Meaning the material contains rust or glue on it as well as a tiny amount of steel and solder.
  • M.C.M wire is the highest grade of copper wire.
  • Insulated #1 wire is the normal PVC insulated wire.
  • #2 wire - There are three different types of #2 insulated wire. The first is 60% wire which is the larger diameter of stranded wire. The second is 40% which is the smaller diameter of insulated wire. The third type of wire has the connector plugs on the ends and it typically pays less.
Where you might find it:
  • Electric motors
  • Copper radiators
  • Sealed units
  • Piping
  • Sheet metal
  • Copper content -an example would be the outlet plug ends on copper wire that have been cut off.

  • Computer CPU
  • Hard drives
  • Floppy drives
  • Power supplies
  • Processing chips
  • Memory chips

Lead

We recycle:
  • Lead pipes
  • Plumbing materials and pipes
  • Lead ammunition
  • Lead batteries
Lead battery
Lead bricks

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is popular in cooking and medical uses where corrosion resistance and high heat tolerance are important. Common applications include:
  • Silverware, cooking utensils
  • Pots and pans
  • Medical and dental equipment
  • Exhaust systems
  • Trophies and plaques
Breweries, wineries
Kitchen utensils
Medical equipment
Plaques
Restaurant kitchens
Sinks
Stainless steel pipes

Steel, Tin and Iron

Steel is found in many home appliances and automotive vehicles.
  • Wheels
  • Plates
  • Tin cans (soup, paint) - liquids removed
  • Filing cabinets
  • Vehicles - Cars and trucks must have the engine, transmission, gas tank, and all fluids removed. Titles must be presented with vehicles.
  • Washers
  • Dryers
  • Ranges (gas and electric)
  • Microwaves
  • Propane, oil, gas tanks - they must be emptied and cut in half to ensure that they are not a hazard to us because they may contain explosive content
  • Toaster ovens
Please note we do not accept Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, or any material that contains Freon gases

If there is any question about whether we take an item for recycling or not please call us first at 303-333-6363.

Materials We Don't Recycle

We don't accept the following materials because our focus is metal and battery recycling. If you need help with identifying recycling sources for these materials we recommend doing an internet search, something like "recycle plastics your-city".
  • Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, or any material that contains Freon gases
  • catalytic converter
  • Kegs - it is against the law for us to accept and recycle them unless they have the correct legal documentation. We recommend that you contact a liquor store and ask if they can handle it or possibly get the paperwork to have them scraped.
  • Plastics - all
  • Paper
  • Glass
  • Wood
  • Paint - we recommend you visit a hardware store and purchase a paint hardener which makes paint trashable.
  • Car oils - most automotive supply shops will take used oils.
  • Paint thinner
  • Fire extinguishers
  • PCB's
  • Computers and peripherals:
    • Printers
    • Fax machines
    • Mobile devices - cellphones
    • Laptop computers
    • Computer monitors
  • Televisions
In addition to listing the materials if we can we identify referral services
